Bringing Partnership to the Post-settlement Process
In conversation with Rocco Strangio, Esq. Associate Attorney, Milestone
Since Milestone’s founding, the company has continued to evolve its role in the post-settlement process. How has Milestone expanded its services to better support attorneys and their clients today?
At its core, Milestone was built to bring clarity and efficiency to a process that has historically been fragmented and slow. Over time, we’ve expanded our role to support more of the post-settlement lifecycle in mass tort litigation, but always with the goal of reducing the burden on law firms and accelerating outcomes for claimants. That includes services like release administration, which addresses critical but often time-consuming steps that can delay progress of the settlement into the distribution phase. By bringing these functions into a coordinated workflow, we provide a more seamless experience for both firms and their clients.
As you mentioned, Milestone introduced release administration to its service offerings. What challenges in the post-settlement process led to these additions?
We listen closely to what law firms feel takes the most time after reaching a settlement. One consistent challenge is managing the release process at scale. Release administration often involves significant coordination, follow-up, and tracking. We also offer bankruptcy scrubs, which require careful review and understanding to ensure compliance and avoid downstream complications. These are essential steps but can pull attention away from client relationships and case strategy. We introduced these services to streamline those key points, so firms can stay focused on advocacy while we handle the operational complexity.
How does Milestone’s Pathway® platform continue to evolve to meet the growing complexity of modern settlements?
Pathway was designed to bring structure and efficiency to post-settlement workflows, and it continues to evolve alongside the needs of our clients. As mass tort settlements continue to grow in both size and complexity, the importance of real-time tracking, data integrity, and coordinated workflows becomes even more critical. We’ve enhanced Pathway to better connect each step from intake through distribution, so that information flows cleanly and teams stay aligned.
But just as important, our software engineers build with usability in mind. Our focus is always on making the process more intuitive, transparent, and efficient for the people using it every day.
In what ways does integrating technology with hands-on service improve outcomes for both law firms and claimants?
Technology provides consistency and speed, while hands-on service provides context and care. You need both to deliver strong outcomes in this space. Our platform allows us to manage large volumes of data and transactions efficiently, but our team ensures that each case is handled with personal attention and accountability. For law firms, that means fewer delays and clearer visibility. For claimants, who are often facing the most traumatic experiences in their lives, it means a smoother experience in the final stages of seeking legal recourse. That balance is what allows us to move quickly without losing the human element of what we are here to do.
As Milestone grows, how do you ensure that your core values remain central to the organization?
Our core values are excellence, client service, agility, and integrity, and they remain our guiding light as we grow. Growth only matters if it strengthens your ability to serve. For us, that means being intentional about building systems and teams that reinforce, not dilute, our values.
Client service is about being proactive and accessible. Integrity is reflected in how we handle funds and communicate with all parties involved. And agility means recognizing that timelines matter to the real people waiting on outcomes. We keep those principles at the center of how we hire, train, and measure excellence.
Transparency and trust are critical in settlement administration. How does Milestone maintain visibility and accountability throughout the distribution process?
Trust is earned through consistency and transparency. We maintain that by ensuring every step of the process is documented, trackable, and communicated. Internally, we follow strict controls and processes to ensure funds are handled appropriately and in accordance with all requirements. It’s about giving our partners confidence, not just in that the work is being done, but that it’s accurate and efficient.
From your perspective as an attorney, how has the role of a post-settlement partner changed in recent years?
There’s been a shift from transactional support to true partnership. Law firms are looking for providers who can anticipate challenges, not just react to them. That means understanding the legal, operational, and human sides of the process and being able to bring those together in a cohesive way. A settlement partner can help drive efficiency, reduce risk, and improve the overall experience for clients, and law firms are increasingly seeing the value in that.
What does “relief” mean in practice for the clients and firms you work with every day?
For firms, relief means knowing the post-settlement process will be handled efficiently, accurately, and with care. For claimants, it means receiving their funds as quickly and smoothly as possible, without unnecessary confusion or delay. That’s what drives everything we do.
